I am happy to inform the Executive Board that nineteen chapters responded to the call for Chapter Quarterly Reports for our April, 2012 meeting.  Though some chapters have not had much to report for this quarter, we continue to thank you for your response.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  I am pleased to report that despite the holiday hectic schedule, eighteen (18) chapters from our US and international chapters took the time to send in their quarterly reports. Mahalo.

On September 4th, 2011 Itsuko Suzuki (EWCA Alumni-Student Coordinator, ISI 62-64) and her family hosted a luncheon party at her home for the new EWC participants from Japan. The Tokyo Chapter leader and a chapter board member, Shigeo and Kazuko Tonoike, attended the party representing the EWCA Tokyo Chapter.

Aloha and mahalo to the 15 chapters that responded to the call for quarterly reports!  A big mahalo also to the chapters that enthusiastically embraced the alumni chapter collaboration suggestion and to their members, who contributed and will continue to generously support the EWC foundation’s endowment student scholarship fundraising goal in the near future.  Thank you for your very much appreciated gift.

The annual General Meeting of 2011 was held on February 5th at Hotel Grand Palace, and was attended by 30 members and 4 guests. The guests were Mr. Nick Barker, from the East West Center’s Asia Pacific Leadership Progrmam, currently visiting the University of Tsukuba (Tokyo Satellite Office).  Ms. Madoka Shimote from the American Embassy, and Blain Keller from the East West Center.

QUARTERLY REPORTS   October 12, 2010  Revised

On September 23, 2010 an email was sent to all the Chapter Leaders for the following purpose:

1)  informing the chapters that the Executive Board will meet on October 13, 2010 and that the quarterly reports from the chapters are needed for that meeting and

2) briefly mentioning the suggested idea regarding a chapter collaborative student fundraising legacy project and soliciting initial input and suggestions from the chapters.

A follow up reminder email that the quarterly reports are due by no later than October 9^th was sent by the Alumni office.

Greetings from Tokyo, Japan!

EWCA Tokyo Chapter members celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the EWC on July 31, 2010.

The Tokyo Chapter hosted a Mid-Summer Aloha Party in commemoration of  EWC’s  50th anniversary on July 31.  35 alumni and their family members participated in the party in Hotel Grand Palace whose CEO is  Mr. Hisao Otsuka, an alumnus of EWC back in 1970.

The East-West Center Association (EWCA) represents the 55,000 individuals who have participated in East-West Center programs since it was established in 1960. EWCA provides many programs and services for its members throughout Asia, the Pacific, and the United States. These services and programs are designed to support the Center’s mission to help build an Asia Pacific Community and to extend the outreach of the East-West Center.

There are nearly 50 East-West Center Association (EWCA) chapters throughout Asia Pacific and the United States. The goal of each chapter is to support the Center by broadening its outreach throughout the region. Chapters facilitate professional networking through a variety of activities including informal get-togethers, seminars, lectures, and workshops. Chapters also support the Center by helping to recruit qualified participants for Center programs, increasing awareness of the Center, and carrying our community service projects.

In November 2009, we received a series of reports from more than a dozen of EWCA Chapters, here is a summary from some of their activities in the year 2009. While some of the reports include activities that have already happened in this 2010, the reports provide a clear idea of the activities that the EWCA Chapters.

Reading these chapter reports shows the active international network of the East-West Center Association, and is like traveling around the world without leaving your chair.

On January 23, 2010, the Tokyo Chapter held its General Meeting, where the activities and expenditures of 2009 were reported, and a draft of the activities and budget in 2010 was proposed and duly approved.

The Meeting was attended by 30 alumni including Dr. Nick Barker, Program Director of the Asia Pacific Leadership Program. He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Tsukuba until March 2010.

EWCA Tokyo Chapter - Genaral Meeting of Jan 23 2010

The EWCA Tokyo Chapter decided to provide contributions to the East-Wets Center as a commemorative action to celebrate East-West Center’s 50th anniversary and as a token of our gratitude to the center.  The EWCA Tokyo Chapter’s contributions will be presented to the East-West Center during the July 2010  Conference.
