QUARTERLY REPORTS, EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING (4/19-4/20/2012)

I am happy to inform the Executive Board that nineteen chapters responded to the call for Chapter Quarterly Reports for our April, 2012 meeting.  Though some chapters have not had much to report for this quarter, we continue to thank you for your response.

Dear EWC Hawai’i Alumni,

Each year, the EWC Alumni Association Hawai’i Chapter Board organizes and co-hosts a welcoming barbecue picnic at Kapiolani Park for all incoming East-West Center Students. This event is always enthusiastically attended and anticipated each year and is a fitting conclusion to the student orientation
week.

As a member of the EWC Hawai’i Alumni Chapter, we would like to invite you to and your family (children are welcome) to join us for this picnic. The picnic will be held on Saturday, August 20th at 11 am at area 14 of Kapiolani Park under the big Banyan trees (across from the tennis courts on Paki Avenue). Please join us and bring along your favorite potluck dish to share.

The Hawai’i Chapter co-sponsors the picnic and each year donates about $800-$1000 towards this event. If you are not able to attend, but would like to help support this special event for the EWC students, we would gladly welcome any contributions from the Hawaii alumni. Please make your checks out to EWCA-Hawai’i Chapter and mail them to East-West Center Associates Office, 1601 East West Road, Honolulu, Hawaii 96848-1601, Attention: Noreen Tanouye. QUARTERLY REPORTS FOR EXECUTIVE  BOARD MEETING (4/21/2011) RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED, ESTRELLA BESINGA SYBINSKY, VP for Chapters

Mahalo to all the chapters that responded to the call for quarterly reports. We received twelve reports from our chapters.

Mahalo also to those chapters that shared their views on the issue pertaining to 1) a cooperative Student Fundraising Permanent Endowment Fund Project for 2011 with all the chapters collectively participating and 2) to the Chapter proposal raised earlier that Chapter Reports be changed from the current quarterly to a twice a year reporting.

Aloha EWC Hawaii Alumni and Associates,

Each year the East-West Center Association Hawaii Chapter holds their Annual Meeting and Fundraiser Dinner. This year it will be held on April 3, 2011 at The Pacific Club. Funds raised from this event will go toward EWC student travel scholarships that enable students to attend professional conference. During the event there will be a bazaar sale and a live auction of Southeast Asian art.

I am pleased to announce that the number of chapters responding to the call for quarterly reports almost tripled for our January 20-21/ 2011 Executive Board meeting.  Whereas eight  (8) chapters responded back in October 2010, currently twenty chapters sent in their reports.

On September 23, 2010 an email was sent to all the Chapter Leaders for the following purpose:

1)  informing the chapters that the Executive Board will meet on October 13, 2010 and that the quarterly reports from the chapters are needed for that meeting and

2) briefly mentioning the suggested idea regarding a chapter collaborative student fundraising legacy project and soliciting initial input and suggestions from the chapters.

A follow up reminder email that the quarterly reports are due by no later than October 9^th was sent by the Alumni office.
