EWC alumnus wins Best Dissertation Award

Former East-West Center Degree Fellow Vijay Munusamy was awarded the 2009 Best Dissertation Award by the International Academy of Intercultural Research for his dissertaton “Decoding the meaning of multiculturalism: An international study of Malayasia, Singapore and Hawai’i.”

Vijay received his PhD in International Management from the University of Hawai’i Shidler College of Business and received the Wall Street Journal Best Student Award while at Shidler College.

We would like to extend our congratulations to Vijay for his outstanding work!

EWC Alum named “Living Treasure of Hawaii”

The Associates Office would like to congratulate Amy Agbayani (‘64-69, ‘77, ‘06) for being named one of five “Living Treasures of Hawaii” by the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii. The award is given to those who contribute significantly to cultural and artistic heritage of Hawaii.

Amy will receive the award at a banquet honoring the five recipients on February 13, 2009 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.

EWC Alum wins national AARP Award

Former East-West Center Staff member Rose Nakamura (ASSOC ‘07) was awarded one of ten Inspire Awards from AARP Magazine on December 8, 2009 at a ceremony in Washington, DC.

Rose finds herself in prestigious company of this national award, given to those of or over the age of 50, with the likes of recipients Glenn Close, Quincy Jones, and past recipients Caroline Kennedy, Gary Sinise, Gladys Knight, and Tom Brokaw, to name a few. Continue Reading »

2008 Gullands Excellence Award

Ashok K. Malhotra (ISI ‘63-69), currently a Distinguished Teaching Professor of the Philosophy Department at SUNY Oneonta, was recognized for his work in promoting literacy among underprivileged children in India by being named a recipient of the 2008 Gullands Excellence Award.

Ashok is the recipient of the EWCA Distinguished Alumni Award and established The Ashok Kumar Malhotra Seva (Compssionate Service) Award for students with outstanding community service.
