By Kaz Matsumoto (‘69 TESL)

Hello and Aloha,

On 20th March, seven of us got together after a long absence.

Place: Party Space at the top(25th Floor) of the Akiyamas’ residence building in the central downtown, just at the foot of Tokyo Tower. The space has an outside terrace of 270 degree view, a possibly ideal place to enjoy those famous Tokyo fireworks in summer season.

Faces: Remember these faces, with a little bit old tints? Continue Reading »

The American participants in this year’s Senior Journalists Seminar are currently traveling to Jakarta; Johor, Malaysia; and Singapore to gain first-hand insights into Islamic communities in Asia, while Asian participants are visiting Washington, D.C., Nashville and L.A. to experience diverse U.S. communities.

Check out this Jakarta video by Wall Street Journal Senior Editor for Video Adam Najberg:

CNN News Wire Editor Tricia Escobedo has filed a couple of stories from the trip:
Violence unlikely to mar Indonesia election, analyst says
Islam helps shape coming Indonesian elections

Tricia is also posting photo galleries on Google’s Picasa Web Albums.

On April 3, both groups of journalists will be sharing their experiences at a public luncheon forum at EWC in Honolulu, titled “The Media’s Role and Impact on U.S.-Muslim Relations.”

Inauguration of Obama: What Can We Tell Our Children?

Posted by ewc_admin on Mar 09 2009 | General

January 20, 2009, Inauguration Day

My Dearest Children and Grandchildren:

Today, we witness the Inauguration of President Barack Obama. Our new President stood with dignity before the world. He reminded Americans when darkness pressed on our ancestors, they did not falter. They sacrificed to give us the land and a better life–our mutual inheritance.

Barbara Bornet Stumph (ISI ‘65-66, OG ‘90), current EWCA Northern California Chapter Leader, wrote a letter to her children and grandchildren on her reflection of the inauguration of President Barack Obama. Her piece was published on the George Mason University’s History News Network website on February 27, 2009. Click here to read the entire letter.
