Weblog Updates: Teaching Ideas, Lectures, and Photos

Posted by AsiaPacificEd on Aug 31 2009 | General

Aloha,

I would like to let you all know that we have made several updates to the weblog this past week, so please take a moment to re-visit our site.

Importantly, we have uploaded all of the teaching ideas/lesson plans developed from both workshop sessions. They can be found at the following link: http://forum.eastwestcenter.org/2009ph/teaching-ideas.

As a quick technical note on downloading the lesson plans, they are all currently in .ZIP format. Several of the lessons included additional material such as sample worksheets, so this was the best way to keep related files combined for easy downloading. Once you open the .ZIP file, you will see a folder containing all individual documents.

Included on the same page as teaching ideas are the PowerPoint presentations from the lectures. These are available for direct download in PowerPoint format (.PPT)

I have also posted links on the side-bar to photo galleries from this year’s workshops. The links posted are to Geoff White’s personal photo gallery and the Arizona Memorial Museum Association’s gallery.

If you have any additional links you would like to share with us please feel free to do so.

Week 2 – Follow-up Questions / Teaching Implications

Posted by AsiaPacificEd on Aug 05 2009 | General

Due to time limitations the presenters were not able to answer everyone’s questions. Please utilize this posting as a place to comment on the teaching implications and ask any additional follow-up questions you may have, and we will help facilitate having them answered for you. Please do make sure you clearly note who your questions are directed towards. Thank you.

Week 2 – Initial Workshop Reflections

Posted by AsiaPacificEd on Aug 05 2009 | General

Now that the first three days of activities/lectures have come to a close, we would like to ask everyone to share their thoughts and experiences with us. Please use this opportunity to reflect upon or respond to the various lectures you heard, your visit to the USS Arizona Memorial, having the chance to meet Pearl Harbor survivors and hearing their eyewitness accounts first-hand, and sharing thoughts and ideas with your Japanese (or American) colleagues. Feel free to respond to each other’s posts with questions and/or comments.

This weblog is a place where we can share our workshop experiences, post reflections and observations, discuss teaching insights and implications, and share resources.

To begin our collaboration and dialogue, please post a short paragraph introduction of yourself using “COMMENTS” at the end of this post. Do include something about your school/students and one thing you wish to learn from the workshop.

Feel free to respond to other people’s comments with content-related questions and/or insights.
